Earlier in April this year, Nepal Tourism Board had announced the logo designing competition for the campaign with a cash prize of Rs. 100,000 for the winner. Some of the guidelines for the competition stated, the logo “should carry the message ‘Discover Nepal 2020’ with the tagline Lifetime Experiences”, it should be “vibrant, unique and appealing depicting Nepal’s ethos and vibes” and it should “depict at its maximum to the natural, cultural and religious diversities of Nepal.”
Among the 145 entries that were received, the design by Kathmandu graphic designer Uddhav Rimal was selected as the winner of the competition.
It will be the third tourism year carried out by the government, post Visit Nepal ’98 and Nepal Tourism Year 2011.
