Abhaya Subba’s ‘Baasa Ko Ghari’ Hits Right in the Feels

I love the songs that make you feel something — it doesn’t necessarily has to make me feel good, sometimes it’s okay to listen to music that make you emotional and little sad as well. Abhaya Subba’s new song makes me feel something like that — happy, sad, emotional – all at the same time.

Abhaya and the Steam Engines leader Abhaya Subba has released a solo song titled ‘Baasa Ko Ghari’ — the song which was originally scheduled to come out last week but was postponed in wake of rockstar Robin Tamang‘s demise. The song is written around child marriage — about girls who get married at an extremely early age.

Abhaya wrote the song in memories of a 16-year-old girl who used to help her around the house several years ago. “I was struck by her smart ways and intelligence. Not only was she a sharp person, she was also strikingly beautiful and tall. I often used to tell her that she had it in her to be Miss Nepal.” She had dropped out of school to support her family financially, and Abhaya had offered to fund her education; but it came as a shock when one day she suddenly eloped.

“I didn’t hear from her until six years later. She called me out of the blue and wanted to meet me. She told me she was married and had a child. The woman who knocked at my door six years later was not the bubbly child I had known several yeas ago. A 22 year old girl now looked like a forty year old world weary woman.”

When asked what had happened to her, she told her that once she got married, she got pregnant within the first year and had to not only look after the infant but entire household chores and farming while her husband was away for work. “The burden of all these responsibilities on a young 16 year old child was heart breaking. This is the reason I wrote this song.”

It surely does look like Abhaya poured her heart into this song as it has turned out hauntingly beautiful.

Written, composed and produced by Abhaya Subba; the song is mixed, mastered and programmed by DJ Zanrix. With Rajiv Rinchen Palzar on guitars and Sonam Bhutia on bass, the song has Hemanta Rasaily on sarangi and Sarada Dongol on maadal.

The song has been released with a music video starring Elena Gurung and Poonam Rana; shot and directed by Sumit Sharma, it is edited by Sanjiv Monga.

Here, watch this beautiful creation.
