2019’s first ‘Big Four’ pageant has started in the Philippines.
A total of 85 contestants from across the globe landed in Manila last week to compete in the 19th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, including Miss Nepal Earth 2019 Riya Basnet.
“I am going to bring the crown home, if not for me, for all the people who believed in me more than I did”, the 23-year-old beauty queen wrote on her Instagram handle as she left for Manila.
The business management graduate from Kathmandu had bagged the title of Miss Earth Nepal earlier this year in May, winning herself the opportunity to represent Nepal at the international stage.
Earlier this week on Monday, Riya’s Eco Video was released on Miss Earth’s YouTube channel. With over 120k views, it is currently the most watched Eco Video this year.
The founding member of Young Roots, a non-profit company, Riya and her team have developed two projects — Zero Waste School and Zero Waste Homes — in an effort to spread awareness about waste management.
Her Eco Video project took her to Helambu in Sindhupalchok district where she organized a community workshop in order to interact with the locals and discuss the possibilities of making this beautiful place the perfect eco-tourism destination for the upcoming Visit Nepal 2020.
The delegates will take part in a number of activities until the coronation night that’s scheduled to take place on the 26th of this month in Naga City. Nguyễn Phương Khánh of Vietnam, the reigning Miss Earth, will pass the crown to her successor in the final event.
Bring home the crown, Riya. All the best!
