‘Panchayat’ has been selected as the official entry from Nepal in the category of ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ for the 91st Academy Awards. Nepal’s Oscars selection committee chose the film over ‘Tandro’ and ‘My Love’ – the two other films competing for the spot.

Starring Neeta Dhungana, Saroj Khanal, Rupa Rana and Ganesh Giri among others; Panchayat is written and directed by Shivam Adhikari. The film had released in March this year.

Last year, Deepak Rauniyar’s ‘Seto Surya’ (White Sun) had beat out all the competition to become the official selection, but the film couldn’t make the cut to earn a nomination in the Foreign Language Film category.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will shortlist the final nominations for awards in all the categories in January 2019. The Oscars 2019 is scheduled to take place on February 24th next year.
