On August 3, 2007; the new national anthem ‘Sayuan Thunga’ was officially announced to have replaced the old one titled ‘Shreeman Gambhir’ amid a ceremony by the speaker of the interim parliament, Subash Chandra Nemwang. The previous national anthem that was written by Chakra Pani Chalise in 1924 was adopted in 1962 and the music was composed by Bakhat Bahadur Budhaprithi.
It has been almost a decade we haven’t sung the previous national anthem but we can’t deny the fact that whenever we hear it play anywhere or even if someone hums it, we get goosebumps. Many of us might have forgotten the lyrics but that doesn’t mean that we have forgotten the feelings we used to have while singing it. The team of ‘Nepal Reacts’ went on the streets to find out if the people still remember ‘Shreeman Gambhir’. They had people sing it and seems like most of the people don’t remember it well. Watch the video below and see how the people tried to remember it. By the way, do you still remember every word of it? Be honest and do comment below.
