Watch: Astha Tamang Maskey’s 4-Part Music Video Series From New Album

Music videos so good, they made me come out of my hibernation.

Haven’t written anything in so long, got the password to the blog right in third attempt. Doesn’t mean, though, that I haven’t been in touch with stuff lately; just in that phase where I know I don’t need to give opinions about everything or have to talk about all the stuff. Plus, people hardly read anymore, they want content they can watch.

So yeah, like I said, I’ve still been in touch; and have been consuming all kinds of content — even including the new movie that had me apologizing to Summer Love (2019) cos I was too harsh to it. I remember thinking back then, “Harey, should have at least got an actor who could grow his own beard.” And here we are, five years later, smh!

I know you don’t remember Summer Love, nobody does. So here’s what I am talking about.

Still better, eh?

So, anyway, what got me to write this thing (before I disappear for another six months) is the new album by Astha Tamang Maskey. Yep, that happened. This one’s called ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’ and it has got 13 songs; and guess what, four of them have got music videos already.

The four-part music video series tells the story of Shashank, a filmmaker based in Nepal and Aayushi, an IT professional working abroad, who has come to Kathmandu to visit her mother. After spending a month here, she hears some people talk about a film director who uses a handycam and well, she knows who that might be and decides to pay him a visit.

The first chapter of the series was titled ‘Aadha’, that was released on August 31st. It was followed by ‘Na Runu’, released a week later; and then two more videos titled ‘Maya Gara’ and ‘Samjhinu Hai’, all released a week apart from each other.

The songs, of course, are beautiful. I mean, it’s Astha Tamang Maskey. Joining her is long time collaborator and her mother, Susan Maskey — who has written ‘Aadha’ and ‘Na Runu’ while the other two are written, composed and performed by Astha herself. Niraj Tamang has produced music for all the songs and the tracks are mixed by Binaya Man Amatya, and Phil Demetro has mastered them.

Now, the music videos — man, I loved them. Kathacharya can’t make a bad music video ever. I have always been fan of Fuzz Factory and Jazz Productions when it comes to music videos; now Kathacharya has joined that list as well. These videos are so beautifully shot and I loved the handycam parts that take us to the school days of the two characters. The work of two actors — Amogh Aryal and Shanaya Nagia — *chef’s kiss*

I am gonna miss looking forward to a new music video in this series; but wait, these folks are actually working on a feature film. Woot woot! That’s huge. The title of the film is gonna be ‘Khulla Aakash’, that’s right, the song from Astha’s ‘Ma Ek Sapana’ album. Both Amogh and Shanaya will be part of it and I am already rooting for them. I hope they have one helluva debut.

Here are the four videos for now, play them on loop y’all; they haven’t got the kind of numbers they deserve yet.

Chapter 1: Aadha

Chapter 2: Na Runu

Chapter 3: Maya Gara

Chapter 4: Samjhinu Hai

I am gonna be so mad if they don’t end up together in the film.

Here’s the album btw.

Astha, you beauty!!
