When Shrinkhala Khatiwada posted her graduation pictures on Instagram in May this year, like a lot of other people, I too had that same question in my mind, “What’s she gon’ do? Will she return to Nepal or stay in the States?” Being a Harvard graduate, she really could have a lot of opportunities there but when I learned from her social media posts that she had returned to Nepal and that too for good; it made me happy.
I am gonna be honest here, for youngsters like us who are working abroad, it’s always great to see people back home succeed. It just makes you happy — it might be because no matter how well you might be doing abroad, somewhere there in your heart, you are always thinking (and dreaming) about going back home and doing something there. And seeing other people succeed in Nepal definitely inspires you too. It might not be an immediate move, but it gives you hope — someday, yeah someday!
So yeah, seeing Shrinkhala taking that bold step was hella inspiring!
It has been almost two months since she returned to Nepal but she hadn’t appeared in any interviews yet, and that was quite understandable on her part — seeing the massive amount of judgement from people towards her for her personal life and relationships. And that would have given a lot of “journalists” or YouTubers one hell of a click-baity interview if she chose to appear on any of them.
Good thing, she recently appeared on Sanjay Silwal Gupta’s On Air podcast and he really did great with the interview. He wasn’t looking for a controversial statement from the Miss Nepal and he was genuinely looking forward to a good conversation — and that’s what happened.
Shrinkhala seemed so comfortable, so laid-back throughout the interview and her answers were so much on point. She made it clear that when she signed up to become the Miss Nepal, she didn’t sign up to entirely open up about her personal life and matters. She didn’t want to talk about her personal life because she had so many other things to talk about — her work, her vision, her dreams, her life at Harvard, her summer job in Argentina and so much more.
Her answers were so real, so honest. She wasn’t just agreeing to what the host had to say as many people would do, she was straightforward with her answers. Totally loved the episode, kudos to both Shrinkhala and Sanjay. Nicely done!
It’s a treat to watch her speak. And her knowledge about so many stuff is commendable. Somebody doesn’t just get into an Ivy League school, after all. Watch the episode here.
You go, girl!
Also check out her architecture firm Gaatha’s website. It’s cool.
