Of Course You’re Telling the Truth. You Are, Right? Please Tell Me You Are.

Dear baini,

I hope you’re doing well. It must have been some exhausting and difficult few last weeks since you decided to put this “evil” man behind bars. The man who took advantage of your pure friendship; and then kidnapped and raped you. He must get punished for what he did. Justice should be served.

Right?

You’re telling the truth, right? Tell me you’re telling the truth baini. No woman would frame a man who she loved with all her heart, the person who she dreamed of spending her entire life with, and the man for whom you were everything — for you he was ready to fight the world. You wouldn’t do that to a man like that, would you?

I have no right to pass the judgement, it’s up to our honorable court and I really hope the truth will come out sooner than later. And it wouldn’t be right if an innocent person was to serve the sentence for the crime he did not commit, right?

I hope nobody is making you say the things that you didn’t want to, and making you do things that you never thought of doing; and I hope what you are saying is true. It is true, right?

You said he forced you to go to India with him, even drugged you. But why do the photos and videos of you together tell a different story? Why do you look like you were the happiest girl in the world when you were with him? Why does it feel like you meant it from your heart when you called him ‘budo’? And look at him, looking like he was the luckiest person in the world to have you by his side, unaware his entire world is gonna turn upside down in a matter of few weeks.

He looks so gentle, looks like he cares for you and wants you to have everything you wish for in your life. He is faking, right? Of course, he must be. Why would you otherwise lie to the world and expose him as a “monster”, right?

A motherless boy, with no support from the father; it was starting to look like this 23-year-old is gonna do okay in life. He had started a business already, and was even doing the thing he loved the most — motorcycle riding and vlogging. And then he fell in love. How dare he? He should have given another look at that driving license that he keeps with himself almost 24×7, and should have read his full name again. And then again, and then again — until the stupid thought of loving someone from the “upper” caste vanished.

Oh, my bad. I am sorry. It was never about the inter-caste relationship, right? That’s what you said. There never even was any romantic relationship involved at all. What was he even thinking? Did he think of himself as a movie hero who would cross all the mountains and every sea to be with you? You, who never had any feelings for him. You didn’t, right? Of course, you didn’t; why would you otherwise want to see the person you loved rot in the jail.

If he did all those things to you without your consent, he deserves it. He deserves some serious punishment. But if he didn’t, would you ever be able to see yourself in the mirror again? Would you ever be able to live with the fact that because of one lie, a promising young man’s entire life got ruined?

Pfft! What am I even saying; of course you are telling the truth. You are, right?
