3 days until we get the new Miss Universe!
92 divas from all across the world have currently gathered in Las Vegas to compete for the most prestigious crown — Miss Universe Nepal Nagma Shrestha and Miss Universe India Shraddha Shashidhar are among them.
The two South Asian delegates are geared up and are more than ready to give their best shots, and make their countries proud. While Nepal will be making its debut in the pageant this year, India has been sending its delegate to the pageant since 1964.
Nagma Shrestha is Nepal’s bet in the competition. The 26-year-old already has represented Nepal in three international pageants – Miss Earth in 2012, World Miss University in 2016 and Miss Eco Universe in 2016. A television producer and presenter by profession, she is looking to make history for Nepal in the pageant as the country is still waiting for its first ever ‘Big 5’ pageant title. She is 5’11”.
On the other hand, Shraddha – the Indian representative in the pageant this year – is hoping to repeat the history for her country. She will be the third Indian to be the Miss Universe if she wins this year. Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000 have won the title for India so far. That’s not it, if Shraddha wins, history will be repeated in another way as well. In 1994, India didn’t only win the Miss Universe title, but the Miss World title as well – with Aishwarya Rai’s victory. And in 2000; while Lara Dutta won the MU title, Priyanka Chopra became the Miss World. With Manushi Chhillar already winning the MW title this year, Shraddha’s victory will repeat the history of ’94 and ’00 again for India – winning two of the most prestigious pageant titles in the same year for the third time.
Shraddha had bagged the title of Miss Diva 2017 earlier this year in Mumbai. The 21-year-old is an undergraduate Mass Media student. She stands 5’8″.
Well, there are 90 other strong contenders competing for the title this year, who will be giving these two girls a tough competition. We’ll have to wait until Sunday night (Monday afternoon in Nepal) to see if any of these two girls be able to succeed the reigning Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere of France.
The coronation night will take place at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada. Steve Harvey and Ashley Graham will host the 3-hour event. Fergie and Rachel Plattern have been confirmed to perform during the event.
