Nepal’s Miss Universe Debut: Nagma Shrestha’s National Costume Is Absolutely Divine

Nagma Shrestha is leaving no stone unturned to make sure her presence is felt in the 2017 Miss Universe pageant. From fitness to apparel to everything else – the 25-year-old has been making every effort to make Nepal’s debut count in the most prestigious beauty pageant.

Earlier this week on Wednesday, The Hidden Treasure held a press meet at Hotel Annapurna in Kathmandu to share Shrestha’s plans and preparations for the pageant. The costumes she will be wearing during the 3-week competition were also exhibited.  Antee Gurung, Astik Sherchan, Subexya Bhadel, Siwangi Pradhan, Mishu Shrestha and Bina Ghale, among others, have designed the costumes for the event.

The special costume that Shrestha will be flaunting in the National Costume segment, too, was unveiled in the press meet.

The handmade ethnic costume designed by Bina Ghale is paired with a handmade head-gear, a sculpted Mandala, designed by sculptor Bijay Maharjan. The designers have named this attire ‘Embodiment of Spirituality’.

The metal head-gear alone weighs 3 kilograms.

In the pageant’s 66 years of history, Nepal will be part of it for the first time this year. The coronation night is scheduled on November 26 in Las Vegas. Shrestha will be leaving for the US next week.

At 5’11”, Shrestha is the tallest Nepali female delegate to represent Nepal at any international pageants. She also is the most experienced representative as she already has represented Nepal in three pageants – Miss Earth (2012), Miss University (2016) and Miss Eco Universe (2016).

Go, Nagma, go!
