This is Mihaelo Noroc, a photographer from Romania.
For last four years, she has been traveling all around the world. With her backpack and her camera, she has been to over sixty countries already — yes, SIXTY! And why exactly? To “photograph everyday women and collect their stories” for her project ‘The Atlas of Beauty’.
“My goal is to show that every woman shines like a star because beauty is diversity, and not just what we see in mass-media”, she writes in a blog. “For me, the real beauty has no age, colours, trends. You can find it in Africa or in Europe, in a village or in a skyscraper, in a smile, in a gesture, in an intense gaze, in some wrinkles or in a story. You can find it in every kind-hearted human being.”
Earlier this year in September, the 31-year-old photographer from Bucharest turned her online photography project into a stunning book titled ‘The Atlas of Beauty’. The 352-page book features portraits of 500 women from over 50 countries, accompanied by their personal stories.
Here are the photographs of the Nepali women who are part of this beautiful book.
“I met her in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2015. She was walking with her son. She didn’t speak English, but he did. So I told him I want to photograph his mother. And he asked me why. “Because she’s beautiful”, I told him. He proudly smiled and looked at his mother, “Yes, she is.”
“She’s Sona during Holi, the festival of colours. This huge Hindu Celebration is one of the most spectacular in the world. The day when spring comes, when good triumphs over evil, a moment to forgive and to be forgiven.
I took this photo on the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal, a few days ago. Now I’m in Iran and soon the Persian New Year (Nowruz) will be celebrated here.”
“The sweetest moment, a few days ago in Kathmandu, Nepal. My next destination will be Iran.”
“It was a Sunday in 2015 and just like every weekend, many people from Pokhara, Nepal were spending their time around the splendid Phewa Lake.”
“Mother and son, in October 2015, on the streets of Kathmandu, Nepal.”
“A few days ago in Kathmandu, Nepal.”
“Amazing eyes in Kathmandu, Nepal.”
“Kathmandu, Nepal, a few days ago.”
“Kathmandu, Nepal, a few weeks ago.”
“A Buddhist nun that I photographed a few days ago in Kathmandu, Nepal.”
