It’s June 2nd, 2015 and Nepal has recently experienced one of the most devastating natural calamities in its history. Nearly 9,000 people have died and 22,000 have been left injured — everything is in utter chaos. Sindhupalchok is one of the worst-affected districts where ten thousands of people are in dire need of help. Captain Subek Shrestha is in charge of flying 9N-AJP helicopter of Mountain Helicopters Pvt. Ltd. to the district to transport relief and aid materials to the earthquake victims. Apart from him, there are three other passengers in the helicopter and they have completed the task; and now are en route to Kathmandu. But looks like they were never destined to make it back to the capital on this dark day as the helicopter has crashed in Yamuna Danda-8 of Sindhupalchok district leaving all of them lifeless.
And there ended the story of a young enthusiastic captain who carried out a number of search and rescue operations saving numerous lives; and left dozens of people behind whose lives would never be the same again without him. And one of them is Samriddhi Rai, a close friend.
On March 23rd this year, Subek would have turned 30. And on his birth anniversary, Rai has released him a tribute song as a present. The singer who so far has released three original singles; ‘Biswas’, ‘Ma Chahi Nepali’ and ‘Prayas’, is dropping her debut studio album this year. The tribute song titled ‘Subek’ is part of the album.
“A tribute song for a person who deserves all the love, for all the happiness he shared with all of us while he was alive. In loving memory of our late friend Captain Subek Shrestha, I present to you Subek – The Song, that was party composed in his presence as we jammed along one wintry evening. The aerial shots used in the video is to show the life that he lived everyday as a Nepali heli pilot. Subek loved what he did, and died doing what he loved,” Rai writes about the song in the description.
