Sarad Shrestha is hands down one of the most iconic rock guitarists Nepal has ever produced. Formerly with The Axe Band, he now plays with Tulmbelweed Inc. He along with his band had shared the stage with Underside, The Shadows and The Exorcist at the 13th edition of the KCM Inter College Music Competition (ICMC) on Saturay at Jawalakhel Football Ground in Lalitpur. Apart from performing as the guest artist, he had also judged the the 12 bands that were competing for the title this year.
After returning from the event, he took to his personal Facebook handle to share his experience of the event and also about judging singing competitions and concerts in general. These are some of the points from his post we absolutely loved.
Judging, Music and Dedication
“Judging a music band contest is not a cup of tea (cakewalk) for the present generation, full of young talents in music indeed. It’s not about judging anyone’s hard work, no way. But just an observation to see how they are ‘seriously’ doing it, how much they are into this crazy sweet passion called music, and how they are thriving to make it possible just to perform one or two songs by practicing harder day by day for hours.”
Rightly said. Creating music is all about your passion and the dedication and hard work you put into it.
What Actually Does ‘Supporting’ Mean
“The weather was rude, rain, windy, too cold; but the supportive audience stayed all the time, cheering for their favorites. Due to this, every participating band were eager to perform more and better. This happens when only one of your friends is present there physically, rather than staying home being smart on Facebook checking ‘going’, that’s enough to make a million feel of encouragement. Even witnessed some parents in the venue to encourage their kids today.”
Well, that’s one helluva life lesson right there. ‘Being there’ for someone you care about is the best way that you can support them in achieving their goals, not just by pretending to be supporting them. Sometimes it’s your presence that is needed and that matters the most — and you might be surprised what wonders your simple presence can do and mean for your loved ones. And same applies for the artists and their fans — support the artists you love by attending their events and cheering for them, that would mean the world to them.
The Importance of Trying
“As for me, all of you are winners. Salute to all those and every single zeal within you.”
Winning is important but what’s equally important, or even more important, is that you try and give it your best shot.
Venue & Management
“It would be better if there were good toilet system. Thing about it please, Jawalakhel Ground and all the venue owners, the event organizers; please consider it seriously. At least if there could be a temporary one for a day. Hardly could imagine how the lady audience survive due to this. The male toilet was a disgrace for sure, a pee pond occurred inside.”
Somebody had to say it. You read it, venue owners and event organizers.
