Anjali Lama has been one of the most talked about models in recent times. The 32-year-old who made her Lakme Fashion Week debut in February this year had become the first ever transgender model to walk the ramp of India’s most prestigious fashion show in its eighteen years of history. She is currently based in Mumbai and has been engaged in various fashion projects lately. And now she has been roped in by Durgish Films to play one of the lead characters in their upcoming film ‘Laure’.
According to producer Sunil Rawal; as Lama already has committed for some projects in Mumbai, it will take her five weeks to come to Nepal and the film will go on floor as soon as she arrives. “She is a hardworking person who has shown the world that if you’re determined, you can achieve anything. And we’re extremely happy to have her in our film,” Rawal told NeoStuffs.
Born as a boy named Nabin Waiba in Nuwakot, it was after she moved to Kathmandu for higher studies when she realized and found her true identity. It has been quite a tough and long journey that she travelled to become what she is today – an inspiration. She was part of a film based on her life story titled ‘Anjali: Living Inside Someone Else’s Skin’ that had premiered in Kathmandu in September 2014. However, ‘Laure’ would be her first feature film.
The film that will also mark the debut of popular pop star Naren Limbu also has Bikram Singh, Shristi Shrestha and Miruna Magar in key roles. The film will be directed by ‘Chhadke’ fame Nigam Shrestha and Mumbai based cinematographer Alok Shukla has been signed to shoot the film. The film that will mostly be shot in Dharan is expected to be made on a budget of over Rs. 10 million.
