Mamita Setling; a Nepali origin rapper more popular by her stage name Amazumi, formerly known as Zulu Moon; has made it to the finals of a singing competition show called De Nieuwe Lichting (meaning ‘The New Wave’ in Dutch), an annual competition organized by Belgium’s leading radio station Studio Brussel. Initially, 60 contestants were selected out of over 800 participants in the first round and the number was then reduced to just eight in the second round. Amazumi is one of the eight finalists who will be performing at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, one of the most popular concert venues in Belgium.
After having spent her childhood and teen years in Nepal and Hong Kong, Amazumi had been living in London for some years before she moved to Gent where she has been living for last five years. Her HipHop journey started while she was studying documentary filmmaking in London. She released her first single in 2014, followed by an EP in 2015. She has also been performing at various events in Belgium, the UK and the Netherlands. She has also been working on her new EP titled V for Venom lately, which is set to release soon.
Talking about her new EP, “This new EP will showcase my lyricism and musicality in a different light. The soundscape is heavily infused with steely synths, hard basslines, heavy guitar licks and dark elements”, she told NeoStuffs.
In the final round of the competition, three winners are to be decided by public voting. The online voting for the same is open through Friday, February 3rd. You can vote for her HERE. Amazumi believes that winning this competition will open her doors to a lot of new opportunities – from promoters, venues, labels, to festivals and gigs not only in Belgium but around the world.
