The year 2016 has been proving to be pretty good for Nepali cinema. With films such as Pashupati Prasad, Prem Geet and Dreams doing wonders not only at the domestic box-office but overseas as well, the year is sure to witness a lot more success stories ahead. To make it easier for you to choose from, here we bring you the eight promising films scheduled to hit the theaters between April to June. Here’s the list in order of their release dates.
1. Nai Nabhannu La 4
The fourth installment of one of the most successful Nepali film franchises ‘Nai Nabhannu La’ is all set to release on April 8th. The film directed by Bikash Raj Acharya will introduce three promising faces to the silver screen – Paul Shah, Barsha Raut and Aanchal Sharma. The film produced by Dinesh Pokharel and Haribol Bhandari also stars Priyanka Karki and Anubhav Regmi. Watch the trailer below.
2. How Funny
Malvika Subba is all set to debut as the film producer with this Nilu Doma Sherpa directorial venture. The trailer and songs of the film starring Dayahang Rai, Priyanka Karki, Keki Adhikari, Nisha Adhikari and Anoop Bikram Shahi are already loved by the audience and the film is definitely one of the most anticipated upcoming movies. The film scheduled to release on April 22 also stars the original ‘How Funny’ guy Sandeep Chhetri and the funniest journalist (unintentionally) Rishi Dhamala in special cameo roles. 3. Bato Muniko Phool 2
The sequel to one of the most appreciated films of year 2010 ‘Bato Muniko Phool’ is all set to hit the theaters on April 22nd. The film starring Yash Kumar, Babu Bogati, Reecha Sharma, Ashishma Nakarmi, Reema Bishwokarma and Dilip Raymajhi is produced by Bhim Neupane and directed by ‘Soongava’ fame Subarna Thapa. 4. Junge
The political drama/action flick inspired by the real life events of Jung Bahadur Rana, ‘Junge’ boasts an outstanding cast of Suraj Singh Thakuri, Reecha Sharma, Anup Baral, Joes Pandey, Sushank Mainali, Najir Hussain and Kevin Karki among others. The film produced by Sushan Prajapati and Utkal Thapa is written by Subash Koirala and M.S. Agraj; and directed by Utkal Thapa. The film is all set to hit the theaters on April 29th. 5. Ke Ma Timro Hoina Ra
Honestly speaking, we don’t have many muscular actors in Nepali film industry and when a new actor with good physique comes into the scene, he definitely stands out. ‘Ke Ma Timro Hoina Ra’ will introduce Aaryan Adhikari who looks promising, not only in terms of his physique but action and acting as well. The film produced by Suresh Adhikari and directed by Akash Adhikari will also introduce a new actress named Mariska Pokharel. The love story/action film is scheduled for its release on May 13th. 6. Gajalu
Anmol KC’s fourth film after three consecutive successful movies – Hostel, Jerryy and Dreams; Gajalu, will mark the debut of Miss Nepal 2012 Shristi Shrestha. The film produced by Rohit Adhikari and directed by Hemraj BC also stars Gaurav Pahari, Salon Basnet, Menuka Pradhan and Ritik Shahi. The trailer of the film scheduled to hit the theaters on June 3rd is yet to be released.
7. Kalo Pothi
‘Kalo Pothi’ is one of the most awaited upcoming films and it makes it to this list entirely because of its content. The film directed by Min Bahadur Bham has been gathering appreciations at various film festivals around the world and even bagged the Best Film award at the 72nd Venice International Film Critics’ Week in Italy. The film starring Khadka Raj Nepali, Sukra Raj Rokaya, Jit Bahadur Malla, Hansha Khadka, Benisha Hamal, Nanda Prashad Khatri, Bipin Karki and Pravin Khatiwada is set in early 2000s and tells the story of two friends who set out on a journey to find their missing hen during the civil war period. The exact date has not yet been announced for its release but the film is expected to be released during this quarter in Nepal. Here’s the trailer.
8. Taandro
Dayahang Rai starrer ‘Taandro’ is based on a book titled “Smriti Ka Dobharu’ which tells the real life story of Ganga Bahadur Lama (Comrade Kosish), a Maoist cadre. The film set during the period of civil unrest is directed by Samten Bhutia and it also stars Kamalmani Nepal, Maniram Pokharel, Rambabu Gurung, Saraswati Chaudhary, Buddhi Tamang, Aarjesh Regmi and Balmiki Pokharel. The film was targeted to be released in first quarter of the year but has been delayed for some reasons and would be released in this quarter. Watch the trailer.
