Monday, February 15th, 2016 – The day when Nepal football team created history by defeating the Indian side on their home ground in the final match of South Asian Games 2016 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati. It was after a long gap of 23 years that the Nepalese side were able to win the tournament. It was Prakash Budhathoki’s 66th minute goal from a free kick and Nawayug Shrestha’s 72nd minute goal that led Nepal to the victory.
The spectacular victory brought tears of happiness in every Nepalese’ eyes and it was a moment of pride for every single one of them. But during the medal distribution ceremony, something happened that shocked everyone. It was when the Nepalese national anthem was playing and suddenly it stopped in the middle. But it didn’t bother our players and they continued singing the anthem so loudly that the entire stadium was filled with the sound of ‘Sayaun Thunga’.
Whether it was an intentional mischief or just a technical glitch, it was undoubtedly very unprofessional. But what the Nepalese players did was surely a tight slap on their faces. Watch the video below to see what exactly happened.
