KATHMANDU, AUG 19: The Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) published their latest document on Global Liveability Ranking and Report 2015 today. Nepalese capital Kathmandu has been listed in second number under the title ‘Ten of the best-the most improved liveability scores over five years’ with 124th rank out of 140 cities surveyed; overall rating of 51 out of 100 and the five year score movement of 3.9. Beating Kathmandu; Harare, Zimbabwe tops the list with the five year score movement of 5.1 and standing at 133rd rank. Dubai, Warsaw, Kuwait City, Honolulu, Beijing, Bratislava, Baku and Nairobi are listed behind Kathmandu with the five year score movement of 3.4, 2.5, 2.5, 2.0, 1.9, 1.7, 1.6 and 1.5 respectively. Damascus, Syria has been listed on top of the worst-biggest falls in liveability score over five years with -27 of score movement.

Melbourne, Australia has been listed as the most livable city with the rating of 97.5; followed by Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto, Adelaide and Calgary. Damascus, Syria has been listed as the least livable city with the 140th rank and the rating of 29.3.

The ratings of the survey are perceived by assigning every city with a rating of relative comfort for over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability; healthcare; culture and environment; education; and infrastructure. This shows that Nepal has taken a giant leap in all these sectors in last five years despite political turmoils. We can easily imagine how much this Himalayan nation can shine under a stable political condition and with a good constitution.
