Nepal Wins Hearts At Mini World Cup in Korea | Finishes Runner Up


SEOUL, MAY 24: TBS eFM, a leading foreign language radio station in Korea, had organized a one day football tournament – ‘TBS eFM Mini World Cup’ at Seoul Human Resource Development Center Soccer Field in the Korean capital today. The seventh edition of the tournament witnessed participations from eight countries – Brazil, Cameroon, China, Germany, Italy, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal and USA; players being the expats living in S. Korea.

It was the very first time that Nepal had participated in the tournament and hence were regarded as the underdogs. The team surprised everyone in the very first match against Italy defeating them by 2-0 goals to enter the semis. Nepal entered the final after defeating Germany by 1-0 to face USA. Nepal lost the game by 2-1 and became the first runner-up of the tournament. Nepali team didn’t only surprise the audience during their very first participation but also won the hearts by playing a fair and discplined game. It could be easily seen that majority of the audience comprising of various nationals were cheering for Nepal.

During the closing ceremony; TBS eFM handed over an amount of KRW 6,072,000 (approx $ 5,540) to Mr. Kaman Singh Lama, Nepalese Ambassador to Korea, raised by the listeners of the radio station for the earthquake victims in Nepal. 150 units of sleeping mats were also donated along with the amount.
