Sanjay Pandit who had earlier set a world record for staying half naked at Mt. Elbrus, the highest peak of Europe, for 6 minutes and 3 seconds at the temperature of minus 60 degree Celsius; has got a yet another record on his name. The ultra marathon runner and mountaineer climbed the highest peak of Australia – Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m) moving backwards. He did so falunting a complete Nepali attire – Daura and Suruwal with Dhaka Topi. it took him 5 hours and 45 minutes to complete the expedition.
Pandit who is still in Australia talked to NeoStuffs and shared his happiness saying, “I feel proud to be a Nepali and I am glad that I succeeded in keeping my nation’s name. I feel honored to recieve all the love from my fellow Nepali people from all over the world.” Thanking all the supporters and well wishers, he further added, “I would like to thank all my well wishers and supporters without whom it would not have been possible. I would also like to take this opportunity to take the names of some of my supporters such as Government of Nepal, LMS Nepal, Rashtriya Khelkud Parishad, Nepal Olympic Committee, Mr. Hemant Kafle, Kathmandu Bernhardt College, Golden International College, Pacific College, Mr. Pradeep Baral, Dr. Samsher Singh Thapa, Pawan Dahal, Swayambhu Dangol, Paras Subedi and Achala Koirala. I want to dedicate my success to all my fellow Nepali people.”
He will send the photos and videos of the expedition to Guinness World Records soon in order to get officially approved. He had earlier also set a new record by climbing Kilimanjaro in just 6 hours and 13 minutes, which is the fastest by a South Asian. Not only that, he also holds the record for running the longest distance in Nepal, which is 2,495 kilometers. The Ministry of Youth and Sports had recently awarded him with the National Youth Award on International Youth Day on August 12th.
The mountaineer is currently on his mission to scale the tallest peaks of all seven continents. He has already climbed Asia’s Mount Everest and Manaslu; Africa´s highest peak Kilimanjaro and Europe’s Mt. Elbrus and Australia’s Kosciuszko.
