Sanjog Rai’s Short Film Competing For Prizes Worth $1 Million

RØDE’ short film competition, My RØDE Reel is here again. Now in its 5th year, the Australia-based manufacturer of microphones that claims the competition to be “the world’s largest short film competition” has made it even larger this year — with a prize pool that is worth a whopping $1,000,000 with over 30 prize categories.

The competition was announced in April this year, calling for submissions from around the world — with a short film of three minutes or less in any style or topic, along with a behind-the-scenes video showcasing any RØDE product(s) being used in the making of the film; the deadline was set for July 31st.

A total of 1628 films have been submitted this year from across the globe, including one from one of Nepal’s top fashion photographers, Sanjog Rai. Titled ‘Kupyati: The Burning Rage’, the 3-minute film marks the debut of the Kathmandu-based photographer. The thriller stars Shilpa Maskey, the model-turned actor who would soon be making her big screen debut opposite Aashirman DS Joshi in ‘Breakup’, along with Sarita Giri. Produced under the banner of The Exhibit Studio, the film is shot by Javed Khan and edited by Revenge Bhatta.

A new category called The Pitch has also been introduced this year. As the company states, it’s “a once-in-a-lifetime chance for budding creatives to win a year-long, all-expenses-paid job as a Video Content Producer at RØDE HQ in Sydney, Australia! To enter, creators send a compelling 3-minutes-max showreel or ‘pitch’ to explain why they should work at RØDE.”

Such a great opportunity for filmmakers! Such amazing prizes.
