Hey there, what is it about Nepal that makes you feel super duper proud? Is it Mt. Everest, or the fact that Buddha was born in Nepal, or is about the glorious history of brave Gurkhas? Ask us the same and our answer is none of the above but it’s music. So, what’s so special about our music? It’s one of the very few things that we can actually feel proud about being as good as, if not better, any international music. Nepali music is rich and has a lot of variety.
Apart from the singers and musicians who are in Nepal, there are quite a lot of Nepali and Nepali origin artists who are based in different corners of the world but are still contributing a lot to Nepali music. So, here we have the list of ten such amazing artists who might not be in Nepal physically but their beautiful music always keeps them close to their homeland.
The list doesn’t include artists who were established in Nepal and later moved abroad but only those who were where they are when they made it big. Here’s the list in alphabetical order.
1. Ankit Shrestha
Ankit Shrestha has so far released some covers along with some original singles. He has also released an album called ‘Finger and Fables’. ‘The Underwater Song’ is the most popular song of this US based singer. He is also a part of a rock band called Plan Aftermath.

2. Astha Tamang Maskey
Astha is a Toronto based singer, songwriter and audio engineer. She has so far released three of her albums titled ‘Sabai Thikai Huncha’, ‘Ma Ek Sapana’ and ’11:11′. Apart from these, she has also released a number of other singles as well.

3. Bartika Eam Rai
Bartika debuted with a bang in 2016. She took the internet by storm when she released her song titled ‘Khai’ from her album ‘Bimbaakash’. The beauty pageant winner who was crowned Miss Nepal US in 2013 writes and sings songs that feel extremely relatable to almost everyone. She has done a number of live performances in the United States so far but still has to play a concert in Nepal. We really hope that happens very soon.

4. Diwas Gurung
Diwas Gurung has released ‘Jharana Sahar’, ‘Adhunique’ and ‘Rato Mato’ albums along with some other singles and covers as well. The US based singer is some of the very few Nepali artists who does complete justice to folk rock or neo Nepalese folk genre.

5. Jay Author
Ranjay Gurung, more popularly known by his stage name Jay Author, is a R&B artist based in the UK. ‘Only Care’, ‘For You’ and ‘Silver Lining’ are some of his most popular original songs.

6. Jerusha Rai
We can never figure out why Jerusha Rai is such an underrated artist. Like seriously, her songs are extremely good. Based in the UK, she has released an album called ‘A Dark Place To Think’ along with various other singles so far.

7. Nicky Karki
Based in the United States, Nicky Karki came to spotlight with her beautiful covers. She has also released quite a number of original singles and has performed at various events in the States.

8. Sajjan Raj Vaidya
Sajjan Raj Vaidya is based in the United States and has released a couple of originals like ‘Hawaijahaj’, ‘Anautho Mutu’, ‘Aaja Matra’ and ‘Mooskaan’ along with various covers. His husky and quite a unique voice makes him stand out of the crowd.

9. Vizay Ghimire
We instantly fell in love with Vijay Ghimire aka VJ’s music when he along with his wife Preity released some beautiful covers of ‘Samjhana Birsana’, ‘A Kanchha’, ‘Maya Ta Mayai Ho’ and ‘Naya Naya Sajau’ among others. Apart from covers and some original singles, the UK based artist has also released a studio album titled ‘Paint Me Love’.

10. Yodda
‘Malai Baal’ rapper Shanam Gurung aka Yodda is based in the UK. There are a number of Nepali rappers based abroad who are pretty good but Yodda is the only rap artist listed here because of one reason, he is unique. Unlike many others, he takes lyrics seriously. And his flow and rapping style too are dope. He has released an album titled ‘Aatma Bibadh’ so far.
