It’s Official, Gaurika Singh Is The Youngest Olympian At Rio 2016

There were speculations that the 13-year-old Gaurika Singh might be the youngest athlete to compete at Olympic Games Rio 2016 and the officials have now confirmed it. The official website of Rio 2016 on Monday published an article making it official that the Nepalese swimmer is the youngest Olympian this year.

Singh will compete in the women’s 100m backstroke, scheduled to take place on August 8th. The young swimmer who currently lives in London with her family holds seven national swimming records in Nepal. She was in Kathmandu to compete at the national championships last year when the massive earthquake hit the nation. She had donated her winnings from the championships to a charity to help rebuild schools. Earlier this year in February, she had won a silver and three bronze medals for Nepal at South Asian Games held in India.

The Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Rio, Brazil from August 5th to 21st this year.
