Nepali Musicians Play ‘The Weight’ With Robbie Robertson & Ringo Starr: Watch

What happens when some of world’s finest musicians play a timeless song together? This:

Pure magic.

The new rendition of The Band’s 1969 hit ‘The Weight’ has musicians from five continents playing the song. The lead guitarist and the writer of the song, Robbie Robertson, himself is also part of the reprised version of the song from the band’s debut album ‘Music From Big Pink’.

“Celebrating the 50th anniversary of a song that transcends time & space”, reads the opening frame of the video, followed by The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, with a cell phone in his hand, asking, “What key is it in, Robbie?”

The song features a number of musicians from all over the world including 1974 AD drummer Sanjay Shrestha, and Rajeev Shrestha, the Sitar player from Sur Sudha along with artists from the US, Japan, Argentina, Spain, Italy, Democratic Republic of Congo and Bahrain.

The collaborative work is a project of Playing For Change, a group dedicated to provide music education to young people around the world.

Kudos!
