2018 gave us two really good battle rap films — ‘Bodied’, produced by Eminem, and British film ‘VS.’ And now there’s this Bollywood film called ‘Gully Boy’, inspired by Mumbai rappers Divine and Naezy, that’s coming out next month. All of these films make us wish our filmmakers, too, were experimental and bold enough to make a film on the hip-hop scene in Nepal as we do have a lot of talented rappers whose stories could definitely pull the audiences to the theatres.
We know that’s not going to happen, not anytime soon. Thanks to Berryy TV, we at least have a glimpse of what it could look like if there was a film that told the story of Nepali battle rappers. The Facebook page has come up with a mashup trailer of ‘Gully Boy’ and instead of the actual trailer, the video comprises of clips of Nepali rap battles and music videos with the audio from the film directed by Zoya Akhtar.
This one has Uniq Poet, one of the best rap artists Nepal has ever produced, in the lead. Who else could play the character of an underdog better than this ‘Underdog’.
Here.
Nice, right?
The film starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt is scheduled to release on February 14th.
