‘Damaruku Dandibiyo’ Trailer: Khagendra Lamichhane’s Sports Movie Looks Promising

A determined Khagendra Lamichhane has taken it upon himself to make Dandi Biyo great again.

Well honestly, the sport never actually was great even when it was the unofficial national game of Nepal. But still, back in the day when there were no smartphones, tablets and such easy access to the internet; some children did play it for recreation – at least in some parts of the country. Last year, volleyball took the spot of the official national game of Nepal – making it even more difficult for the people to remember that a game called Dandi Biyo ever existed.

And that’s why the ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ actor is here with his brand new film that’s all about the forgotten game.

While sports isn’t really a common genre in Nepali cinema, there have been some films based on sports. The most recent film was Champion, a film based on cricket that you might have no idea about as hardly anyone noticed when the 2015 film came and went. We really, really, really hope that doesn’t happen with this one.

Written by Khagendra Lamichhane, ‘Damaruko Dandibiyo’ is directed by Chhetan Gurung. The film that has Lamichhane playing the lead, also stars Anup Baral, Menuka Pradhan, Buddhi Tamang, Ankeet Khadka, Aashant Sharma and Laxmi Bardewa, among others.

The film revolves around Damaru; the son of a former dandi biyo champion who is a school principal and for some reason, hates the game now; who returns to his village with the intent to revive the sport that nobody cares about anymore. In order to do so, he even has to go against his father. After getting a team ready, he goes to the city again – this time to take part in the first ever inter-state dandi biyo tournament.

Lamichhane, who already has built a loyal fan-base with his powerful performances in films like Talakjun vs Tulke and Pashupati Prasad, looks impressive in the trailer and so does the remaining cast of the film. The film is slated for its release on May 4th.

Can’t wait!!!!
