Watch: Students In Kathmandu Perform A Phenomenal LGBT-Themed Dance

The second edition of Astitwa, Inter-college Theme Dance Competition took place in Kathmandu on Saturday, March 17th. The event organized by Himalaya TV had dance groups from various colleges around the capital competing for the title. One of those groups came from Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management who performed an amazing act that wowed everyone present in the venue.

The group’s 6-minute act has two gay couples – portrayed by Sumiti Bajracharya and Samana Sherchan; and Srijal Manandhar and Ashiphal Khatri – who are happy with their lives and relationships. But the so called ‘society’ being society – and being good at what it always does – judging others and interfering in their lives – come into the scene and ruin it for them. See what happens next.

The performance; that also had Anish Tamang as the transgender, and Satish Tamrakar, Rosis Maharjan and Adarsha KC as the members of the society; was choreographed by Srijal and Sumiti. The dance was performed to the mashup of James Arthur’s ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ and Sia’s ‘The Greatest’.

The powerful performance had everyone in the audience cheering for the group. They won themselves a runner-up position in the competition and walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. The dance group from Orchid International College was announced the winner of the competition, and they received Rs. 75,000 as the prize money.

More power to you, guys. You won our hearts and respect.
