Naren Limbu is making his directorial debut; and what better title could he get for the film, other than – Aastha.
Limbu, who along with Sudip Gurung, formed ‘Aastha’ – a two-piece band – had released their self-titled debut album in 2003. As soon as their first music video from the album for the song titled ‘Harpal’ hit the television screens, the duo became the newest sensation in Nepali music.
Their first album was so promising that the fans were positive that they would be getting a lot of good music from the duo in future as well. But unfortunately, that didn’t happen. Post the album release, Gurung went to the UK, where he has been living since then. Limbu, on the other hand, is still very active in music and has also been directing music videos. The two did come up with new albums, but as solo artists. However, they did tour Australia together in 2016.
And finally, after waiting for like forever (15 years to be exact), the fans will be getting a song from the duo. The two will be working on a soundtrack for Limbu’s film ‘Aastha’.
The film, written by Limbu himself, will also have him in the cast – playing the lead. Two actresses — theatre artist Kusum Gurung and Miss UK Nepal 2017 Sirjana Gurung – will be making their silver screen debut with the film.
“As you know I have been making music videos for the past twelve years; my ultimate goal has always been to be a movie maker. Aastha is the project that I have been planning since 2006. It took me long but all this while I was learning about film-making”, Limbu told NeoStuffs.
“Many don’t know but I actually had a formal training in film-making from Nepal Institute of Films and Arts in 2003. It’s been 15 years; and I feel like this is the right time for me to take that step forward”, he further said.
The film’s story revolves around a brother (played by Naren) and his sister (played by Kusum). Sirjana plays Naren’s love interest in the film that went on floor earlier this week.
The film will be released later this year.
