‘Bodhi Chhaaya’, a play that premiered in Kathmandu on September 17th, is going to be – as its makers claim – the longest running theatre show in Nepal. The play that revolves around the life of Buddha is targeted to be ran for five years, EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Yes, you read that right. The show will take place for 1,826 days, without any break. According to a report by OnlineKhabar, two sets of cast and crew, comprising 40 persons each, have been hired. The drama involves 17 traditional dance forms including Ghatu, Jhumra, Chaliya, Aryatara, Ashtamatrika, Manjushree, Maruni, Thakali, Shyabru, Selo, Lakhey, Sakela, Bhairav, Basundhara, Satar Panchabuddha, and Lyaku Bhaila.
According to the writer and directer of the play, Kavita Srinivasan, though it’s a new thing for Nepal, such long shows are in practice in many countries around the world.

Presented by Rayshine Travels and Tours and executive produced by Sushila Arts Academy, the show opens every evening at 6 PM at Rastriya Naachghar, Jamal. The tickets are priced at Rs. 1000 for Nepalese and Rs. 3500 for foreigners. While the children below 9 years won’t be charged the fee, children and teens above 9 will have to pay Rs. 300.
