18-Year-Old Nepal-Born Boxer Is The Captain Of A Team In Amir Khan’s Super Boxing League

The first ever professional boxing league in India, Super Boxing League (SBL), is all set to begin this week in Delhi. Founded by 2-time world champion and Olympic medalist British boxer, Amir Khan, along with British business tycoon Bill Dosanjh; the league will start from July 7th.

Four Nepali boxers have been roped in to be a part of the first season of SBL — Manohar Basnet from Lalitpur, Kristina Sunuwar from Dang, Sulabh Thapa Magar from Damak, along with Asha Roka.

Asha Roka; born in Nepalgunj, Nepal; is now fighting out of Bhopal in India. The 18-year-old boxer turned MMA fighter who made her Super Fight League debut in India earlier this year had won the title of Best Fighter of the league. The teenager who was part of Team Sher-E-Punjab didn’t only remain undefeated but also defeated all her opponents within 1 minute and 45 seconds.

Roka will now not only be boxing in the Super Boxing League, but will also be leading the North East Tigers Team.

Apart from North East Tigers; there are seven other teams in the league — Delhi Gladiators, Haryana Warriors, Punjab Sultans, U.P. Terminators, Mumbai Assasins, Maratha Yoddhas and Bahubali Boxers. There would be two groups ‘A’ and ‘B’ consisting of four teams each; comprising of five male fighters and one female fighter along with six back-up players in each team.

According to the organizers, “Boxing is a team format is going to be introduced in the Super Boxing League where there will be six boxers in a team and the way a boxer wins the bout gets their team a score under Point Scoring System and at the end of the event, the team with maximum score wins.”

“This concept is going to grow the fan following of the boxing team instead of an individual.”

All the matches will be aired live on Sony ESPN and Sony Liv. The league starts on July 7th, from 7 PM onwards.

For the time being, here’s a Super Fight League match between Asha Roka and Anjela Pink.
