It was a rainy evening in Paris in 2008 when two friends, Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, were having a hard time finding a cab after attending Leweb Conference. It was that very moment when they thought of creating a service that will allow people to have a quick access to cabs anytime and anywhere. They started brainstorming and created an iPhone application that people could use to quickly call a ride at any place. Officially founded as UberCab in March 2009, the rest is history. The company headquartered in San Francisco was recently evaluated to be worth $62.5 Billion. Operating in over 500 cities around the world, the company is planning to expand to various other cities as well.
Now the question is, will Uber ever come to Nepal? We don’t know yet. But this picture of the Managing Director of CG Corp, Nirvana Chaudhary, with the CEO and Co-founder of Uber, Travis Kalanick makes us hopeful.
Chaudhary and Kalanick had met in Mumbai last week. The two talked about the possibilities of bringing the service to Nepal. We’re not sure if both of them had good feeling about it or not but we would love to believe that they did. However, it won’t be a piece of cake to bring Uber to Nepal – taxi drivers would protest, accurate map details would be a problem and of course, the payment system is not yet very efficient in the nation. But hey, it’s Chaudhary Group. They can make it possible if they really are interested in it.
We’re pretty sure that a service like Uber would be quite a relief for the urbanites as sometimes it’s too difficult and frustrating dealing with taxi drivers. You know what we’re talking about, right?
