‘Kalo Pothi’ Is Nepal’s Official Entry For Oscars 2017

‘Kalo Pothi’ has been selected to represent Nepal at the 89th Academy Awards. The film that left behind two others movies ‘Pashupati Prasad’ and ‘Ko Aafno’ in the race will be competing with various other movies from around the world to get nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film. Five of the nominated films will be competing for the award at the event scheduled on 26th February, 2017 at Dolby Theatre in California.

‘Kalo Pothi’ was released in Nepal on June 3rd and was not only well received by the critics but was also a commercial hit. The film that had bagged Best Film award at the 72nd Venice International Film Critics’ Week in Italy is written and directed by Min Bahadur Bham. The film starring Khadka Raj Nepali, Sukra Raj Rokaya, Jit Bahadur Malla, Hansha Khadka, Benisha Hamal and Bipin Karki is set in early 2000s and tells the story of two friends who set out on a journey to find their missing hen during the civil war period.

We absolutely think that it’s a good choice as it’s the kind of film that gets good amount of attention at Oscars. We hope that the film gets Nepal its very first Oscar. Good luck to the team!

Here’s the trailer.
