The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences revealed the International Emmy nominations for 2016 News & Current Affairs Categories on Tuesday. Al Jazeera’s Nepal based correspondent, Subina Shrestha, is one of the eight nominees from six countries who might be winning this prestigious award that is considered the television equivalent to the Oscars (for films) and Grammys (for music). Also the winner of Concentra Award, Subina has been nominated for her 2015 Nepal earthquake coverage.
The other nominees in the same category are: Sky News for its ‘migration crisis’ coverage, Jornal Nacional and Fantastico for its ‘Zika’ coverage, ITN on the ISIS coverage and GloboNews for the coverage on Syria, among others. The winners will be announced on September 21 at a ceremony at Rose Hall in New York.
While announcing the nominees; Bruce L. Praisner, Pesident & CEO of International Academy of Television Arts & Science, said, “In this volatile world where anybody can comment on serious world events on social media platforms, true journalistic voices and investigations are more crucial than ever. We salute the 2016 nominees for their outstanding broadcast journalism.”
