Cinema buffs around the world are going crazy in excitement after the Las Vegas based internet television network, Netflix, expanded its services to 130 new countries, making this world’s leading streaming media company almost everywhere around the world except in China, Crimea, North Korea and Syria. As the service is now available in Nepal as well, we don’t really think that the company should expect a lot from this Himalayan nation, atleast for now. Reasons? Well, we will give you seven.
1. Loadshedding
It’s hard to believe that the second richest nation in water resources, Nepal still faces an everyday loadshedding of upto 16 hours. That’s insane! So where there’s no electricity for most of the time, why need a service like this?
2. Expensive
Netflix can’t replace cable/dish services for now in Nepal as it doesn’t have local shows listed on it. Paying around Rs. 500 per month for cable or dish and paying Rs. 1000 for Netflix would be quite expensive. And of course, you must need an internet connection in order to use it, so some extra bucks for that. E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E
3. Internet Speed
Netflix runs well in 2 mbps internet speed, or it requires at least 1 mbps speed to run fairly; but majority of the people have slower internet connections of 512 kbps or 256 kbps, which means the shows will keep on buffering which kind of SUCKS!
4. Where Is My Favorite Show??
Netflix has a library of huge number of shows and films, it’s so huge that it will be hard for you to even watch 10% of it. But then again, huge doesn’t mean all. There are some shows which are not available on it, for example, one of the most loved TV series ever – Game of Thrones, which is scheduled to hit the TV screens in April this year. No GOT means no fun, as simple as that.
5. ‘Other’ Free Services
Why pay for something that you can get for free, eh? We don’t mean to promote piracy here, but it is well known that Torrent has eveything, and when we say everything, it means every content Netflix has or doesn’t. Period.
6. Credit Card Is An Issue
It shouldn’t be much of an issue but it is as majority of the people in Nepal still don’t use or own a credit card. And no credit card means no registration. Eew!
7. What Are You Even Talking About?
It must not come as a surprise that majority of the people in Nepal have not even heard of Netflix. They have no idea what it is and even if it was a free service, they won’t give a sh*t about it. Yep!
There are many more reasons Netflix won’t do well in Nepal but that can’t deny the fact that it’s an awesome service and it is highly addictive.
