These Infographics Explain Why ‘Citizenship Through Mothers’ is Still An Unfulfilled Dream in Nepal

An individual’s citizenship creates a legal covenant between state and them; and that is why it is important to make sure that statlessness is avoided and non-discrimination on the basis of sex is guaranteed. But even the latest constitution of Nepal has not been able to bridge the gender gap and has continued to consider women to be second-class citizens.

A series of infographics titled ‘A Critique on the Citizenship Provisions of the Constitution of Nepal 2072’, created by Supriya Manandhar with the assistance of Kripendra Amatya; easily explains what is wrong with these provisions and how women are still treated based on the dependent notion of nationality. Take a look.
