Nepal is the 3rd most generous South Asian nation, India at last and Sri Lanka on top of the list : CAF

They say, “Being rich is not about how much you have, but how much you give.” And Nepal has proved it again that it might be one of the least developed countries in the world but it has a heart of gold. Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) have recently released their report of CAF World Giving Index 2015. The sixth edition of World Giving Index includes data from 145 countries across the globe that was collected throughout the calendar year of 2014.
As per the report, Nepal is the third most generous South Asian nation with the Global ranking of 76. The most generous South Asian country is Sri Lanka (8), followed by Bhutan (17). Afghanistan (84), Pakistan (94) and Bangladesh (95) are after Nepal with India (106) being the least generous nation in South Asia. The data from Maldives is not available in the report. Along with India, Nepal has left behind two other Asian giants as well – Japan (102) and China (144).

As per the report, Myanmar is the most generous country in the world; followed by United States of America, New Zealand, Canada, Australia and United Kingdom. The least generous country is African nation Burundi with the global ranking of 145, followed by China at 144th rank.

The CAF World Giving Index is scored by averaging the percentage of people in each country who – (i) donated money, (ii) volunteered for some cause and (iii) helped a stranger. In order to establish a rounded measure of giving behaviour across the world, the World Giving Index relies on a simple averaging of the responses from the three key questions asked in each country. Each country is given a percentage score and countries are ranked on the basis of these scores.

The survey also found that more people around the world are giving to charity with around 1.4 billion people donating money in 2014, or 31.5 percent of adults, up from 28.3 percent in 2013.
