‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ is Nepal’s Official Entry For Oscars 2016


‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ has been selected to represent Nepal at the 88th Academy Awards on February 28th, 2016. The film that left behind three other movies ‘Bhimdatta’, ‘Sunpani’ and ‘Nishani’ in the race; will be competing with various other movies from around the world to get nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The film produced by Rojina Sitaula, Ram Kumar Baniya and Sita Shrestha under the banners of Black Horse Pictures and Shatkon Arts is directed by Nischal Basnet. The film starring Khagendra Lamichhane, Dayahang Rai, Richa Sharma, Shusanka Mainali, Rabindra Singh Baniya and Prakash Ghimire was released in Nepal on October 31st, 2014 and was a commercial hit.

‘Jhola’ was Nepal’s entry last year which could not move ahead to be nominated for the award. 1999 film ‘Himalaya’, directed by Eric Valli is the only Nepalese film so far to be nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the Academy Awards. Can ‘Talakjung Vs Tulke’ make it large for Nepal this year? Well, the hopes are high.
