Rakshya: New App Will Help Keep You Safe

A new smartphone app named ‘Rakshya’ was launched in an event held at Trisara Garden in Kathmandu on Saturday. The very first app of its kind developed in Nepal is an initiation by Women Nepal, an organization working for the welfare of Nepali women. Mr. Lilamani Pokharel, Cheif Secretary of Nepal Government was the Chief Guest and Mrs. Anuradha Koirala, Founder of Maiti Nepal was the Guest of Honor for the event.

The best way to minimize your chances of becoming a victim of violent crime (robbery, sexual assault, rape, domestic violence) is to identify and call on resources to help you out of dangerous situations. This app developed by Techrodians Offshore Base puts those resources at your fingertips quickly. Whether you’re in immediate trouble or get separated from friends during a night out and don’t know how to get home, having this app on your phone can reduce your risk and bring assistance when you need it. Pressing the power button twice will send out a predetermined text message along with your exact location to contacts of your choice.

This wonderful initiation is praiseworthy and hopefully it will help reduce the number of harrasment incidents. The app can be downloaded for free from – HERE.
