Sushmita Maskey Conquers The Seven Summits, Creates History!


Sushmita Maskey; a mountaineer, social activist and a motivational speaker; created history on December 6th, 2014 by becoming the first Nepalese woman to conquer all the highest peaks of the seven continents, popularly referred as the ‘Seven Summits’.

She climbed the tallest peak of the world – Mt. Everest (8,848 meters), Nepal in 2008 for the first time and for the second time on 18th May, 2011. She then climbed Mt. Elbrus (5,642 m), Russia on 26th June 2013; Mt. Kilimanjaro (5,895 m), Tanzania on 5th July, 2013; Mt. Kosciuszko (2,228 m), Australia on 25th July, 2013; Mt. Aconcagua (6,961 m), Argentina on 13th January, 2014 and Mt. Denali (6,194m), USA on 23rd June, 2014. Her most recent expedition to Mt. Vinson Massif (4,892 m), Antarctica was conquered on 6th December, 2014.

Maskey had led the most successful and historical expedition of 10 Nepali women to Everest in 2008 with notions of “Unity in Diversity” and “Women Empowerment & Gender Equality”. For her contributions, she received the MDG3 Champion torch under the Danish Global Call to Action on Millennium Development Goal 3; the Nawadevi Award 2008; and the Youth Ambassador for Peace by Universal Peace Federation. In 2010, she was invited by the State Department of USA, to visit under a program entitled “American Youth: Inspiring Leadership and Civic Participation”. In 2011, the Ministry of Tourism in Nepal recognized her as Goodwill Ambassador of Nepal Tourism.
