Namrata Shrestha Talks Depression, the 2009 Scandal & more in Candid Interview

It’s 2009 and Nepali cinema has started to grab my attention to some extent — well, some movies, to be more particular. I’ve watched Kagbeni and Sano Sansar already; they were not like great movies or anything but they sure were decent ones that didn’t look like they were made in the ’60s as they were both produced in digital format. The next film I am looking forward to is ‘Mero Euta Saathi Chha’ as I liked the leading actress in her debut film that came out last year. The model turned actress is Namrata Shrestha who seems to have a promising career ahead of her.

I am watching an interview of Aaryan Sigdel, the male lead of the film, promoting the film directed by Sudarshan Thapa on some Kantipur TV show (probably Call Kantipur or some other show, I don’t remember). While talking about the film, the host asks him a question regarding the recent incident that happened with his leading lady of the film. I had no idea what he was talking about back then. You see, just a decade back, the internet was not as easily accessible as it is now. Remember the good old cyber cafe days?

So anyway, I later found out that the “incident” was the leak of an intimate clip of her that made everyone question, “What now? Is she over already? What is she gonna do?” Well she is gonna deal with it like a lady!

Cut to now, she is standing tall — nailing this thing called life. A successful person who is loved and looked up to by millions. Why? Because she didn’t quit.

Namrata doesn’t do a lot of films and appears in media just once in a while. That might also be one of the reasons it’s always a treat seeing her on screen. She recently sat down for an interview with Avash for the new episode of his web series ‘Sukul Guff’ and it turned out to be one of her most candid interviews.

While the ‘Classic’ star talked about her journey in the film industry as an actor and a producer so far, she also opened up about a lot things that not only kinda surprised me but also inspired me.

From the 2009 scandal to the the 2015-16 period when she was going through depression, she spoke her heart out in the 45-minute interview. Watch it here.

I also loved to see such a sensible host who doesn’t force any questions on his guest and lets her choose to speak about any topic if only she is comfortable about it. I think it’s stupid when some hosts ask some extremely personal questions, with the excuse “janata janna chahancha” and make their guests feel like they made a mistake by agreeing to the interview. This video could totally have the most click-baity and sensational title but I appreciate how Exhibit Studio is not competing in the race for the most viral stuff, but are choosing to create some genuine and watchable content. Kudos, you guys!

And dear Namrata, you are a queen. Just a friendly reminder.
