4-Time USA Memory Champion Isn’t Convinced Bijay Shahi’s Skills Are Legit

If you’ve spent some time on YouTube this week, you’ve probably come across at least one or two videos of Bijay Shahi, who is being dubbed as the ‘Memory King’, mostly by the YouTube “journalists.” A minimum of half a dozen of videos featuring him are currently trending on the video-sharing platform.

So the dude claims that he is able to memorize an entire book within minutes; and he seems to be actually doing that in those videos but I don’t know, man. I don’t kinda dig it. I am not sure if I believe him. And the same thought is shared by many other netizens as well who don’t think it’s possible to do what he claims he can do.

According to him, while studying for around 18 hours a day during his +2 days; he came up with this “formula” that helps him memorize everything within minutes. Now he wants to change Nepal’s education system with the same as he thinks it’s not good enough.

Great. Uddeshya ke linu, udi chhunu chandra ek.

But, but is he legit though? Nelson Dellis doesn’t think so.

Nelson Dellis who?

The 36-year-old British American memory athlete is a consultant, public speaker and a published author. He has won the USA Memory Champion competition four times. He also has a YouTube channel and that’s why I am writing about him today as in his latest video, he talks about Bijay Shahi and his memory power.

(The Bijay part starts at 9:48)

“I’ve been getting so many emails about this guy. He’s dubbed the Memory King of Nepal. He is basically, I think from what I’ve read, claiming that he can memorize a thousand-page book in under ten minutes”, introduces Dellis.

“No. To be honest, I don’t even really need to watch more of this. This is a demonstration to, my opinion, take advantage of people who don’t know any better to believe. He is not even looking at the pages completely, doesn’t look like he is processing both sides.”, comments the man who has won the Grand Master of Memory title as he watches a video of Bijay with Bhagya Neupane.

“For someone to do something so incredible, if you really could do it, then you would want to make sure that your video captured every possible question that anybody could have to doubt you and I’ve a million doubts.”

“For the people who are even way better than I am, who are at the top, the world champions; they even can’t do anything close to this. And that’s the best. So, who is this guy? I’ve never heard of him before. I give this a thumbs down on the Nelsonometer. This is fake. I will tell you that right now. My gut, everything tells me it’s fake.”

Dellis then watches a clip of Bijaya from an interview with Rishi Dhamala and that’s when he is like, “Alright. I’ve had enough of this guy.”

At last, Dellis invites Bijaya to have an interview with him where he would test his skills. “Bijay, I invite you to my channel. Let’s do an interview, me and you, nobody else and I’ll come up with some memory tests. I would love to have you on my channel. Prove me wrong. I loved to be proven wrong. I would love for this to be true, in which case, I think I am out of the job but come show the world.”

Well, that’s exactly what I want. I hope he proves me wrong, too. I really hope he takes this challenge and shows everyone he is not making a fool out of everyone.

Anyway, what do you think? Comment below.
