‘Red Monsoon’ Arrives on YouTube: Why is Nobody Watching this Film?

2014 was a pretty good year for Nepali cinema, I must say. I know majority of the films bombed at the box office (like every other year) but at least it did give us some good movies like ‘Jhola’, ‘Kabaddi’, ‘Talakjung vs Tulke’ and ‘November Rain’ among others. Of course there were other films as well, that enjoyed good occupancy at the theaters, like ‘Chha Ekaan Chha’, ‘Jerry’ and ‘Nai Na Bhannu La 2’.

And when we talk about the year 2014, we cannot not talk about ‘Red Monsoon’.

Released in May that year, the film already had enjoyed a good run in the festival circuit before it hit the cinema halls. And after six years, the film has landed on YouTube but not many people are watching it. In eight days of its online release, it has not even been watched by 3,000 people.

I know it’s not your average masala entertainer with five songs, two steamy romantic scenes and a big fight with the villain at the end; but man, you gotta appreciate good films.

The debut directorial feature of Eelum Mani Dixit is produced by Ruth Moe and Ajaya Upadhaya. The film starring Sandip Chhetri, Shristi Ghimire, Himali Dixit, Sudam CK, Sarita Giria and Hari Bansha Aacharya also has some beautiful music composed by Lochan Rijal.

The indie film does have its flaws but it still makes a good watch.

Enjoy!
