LGBTQ+ Themed Nepali Music Videos to Celebrate Pride Month

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the annual LGBTQ+ Pride traditions as the first Pride March was held in 1970 in New York, a year after the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. So every year, during the month of June, the LGBTQ+ community celebrates across the globe in a number of ways, including in Nepal.

While Nepal has been a beacon for LGBT rights progress globally, a lot has to be done yet. Hopefully, everything’s going to be get better for everyone in the near future.

So anyway, what do we do today? We celebrate. We celebrate with music. While we don’t really have a lot of LGBT themed songs or music videos, at least we have some.

Nilo Aakash – Visan Yonjan

Such an underrated gem this one is. ‘Nilo Aakash’ is written, composed and sung by Visan Yonjan and its music video stars two female characters who are absolutely in love with each other. Directed by Shreshan Shresha, the video stars Subeen Marshani and Seshema Sonyok.

Kathmandu Saharmaa – Ankit Shrestha

Another underrated beauty. I don’t know why Ankit Shrestha hasn’t blown up already. He’s such a talented fella. Anyway, this song is called ‘Kathmandu Saharmaa’ and you can totally argue with me that its music video doesn’t have any LGBT angle to it because it’s so subtle. “Ke timi udna sakchhau mero haath samai, ke timi ladna sakchhau dui din ko ladai“, says the song written, composed and performed by Ankit. Arpana Lama, Akanchha Karki, Manisha Maharjan, Surjani KC, and Sradeep Pradhan star in the music video shot, edited and directed by Barkha Mukhiya and Pranav Narayan Manandhar.

Nare Nisha – Kta Haru

Ayyyy! This is one of my favorite songs on this list. ‘Nare Nisha’ from Kta Haru’s ‘Galat Nirnaya’ album is such a fun song.

Pahaar – Sajjan Raj Vaidya; OST Just Another Love Story

Sajjan Raj Vaidya — just the name is enough. ‘Pahaar’, the ‘Just Another Love Story’ OST, stars the leading ladies of the web series, Priyanka Karki and Shristi Shrestha, on the music video as well.

Maile Bhulna – Anju Panta

Sad song alert! Skip it if you’re not in mood for it. But definitely a good song by Anju Panta. ‘Maile Bhulna’ is written by Darpan Yatri and the music is composed by Jeeten Tamang. The music video stars Benisha Hamala and Reema Bishwakarma and it’s directed and edited by Prabin Shrestha.

Samir Limbu – Timile Ta Sajilai

Another sad song alert. Man, we need more happy and fun songs. So this one is by Samir Limbu and it’s called ‘Timile Ta Sajilai’. I think the music video is a little too much but the song’s good.

Maya Bhanne Sabda – George Gurung

George Limbu’s ‘Maya Bhanne Sabda’ music video stars our superstar blogger Lex Limbu and MIss UK Nepal 2017 Srijana Gurung. The video is about cheating and stuff, so skip it if you want to.

Bujhideu – Raaj Limbu

I don’t know if I want to keep this song on this list because we’re talking about celebrating and this one’s more like a sad song. But still, it’s a good song and the music video is a portrayal of reality for a lot of people who have a hard time being accepted as who they are by their own family and friends. The song’s titled ‘Bujhideu’ and it’s penned and performed by Raaj Limbu. Directed and edited by Kranti KC, video stars Niraj, Ashik, Laxman Chaulagain and Sabitri Devi Gautam.

Hataarindai Batasindai – Sajjan Raj Vaidya

And here comes everyone’s favorite song – Hataarindai Batasindai. I don’t think I need to say anything about this Sajjan Raj Vaidya song or its music video. Just too good.

That’s kinda it. Let me know if you think I missed out on some good music. Happy Pride Month!!
