If it was three or four years ago, I would have written about it already. Not only this but I would have written about that firetruck guy, Arnab and every other controversy that took place in recent days. But like I said, if it was few years back. I don’t do that anymore.
Back then, I would write about everything — just give my opinion about everyone and everything. Among other reasons, it was also because this kind of stuff brings in a lot of readers. Guess, everybody loves controversies. But as the years passed, I’ve realized that I don’t need to have an opinion about every single thing. Also, I’ve been a little lazy about writing lately.
So what made me write about this then? This.
नमस्ते म “ BARSHA SIWAKOTI “ 🙏🏻 धन्यवाद !! ( मेसेज पठाउनु र कमेन्ट गर्नु अघि नाम थर हेर्ने कष्ट गरिदिनु होला)Posted by Barsha Siwakoti on Monday, May 25, 2020
Earlier today, Barsha Siwakoti posted a picture of herself on her Facebook handle and wrote “Namaste. I am Barsha Siwakoti. Thank you,” followed by “Please bother seeing the name and last name before sending messages and comments.”
The ‘Pashupati Prasad’ actress wrote this because she has been getting a lot of messages, more particularly abusive messages, these past few days — the messages that were supposed to be filling up somebody else’s inbox.
I won’t judge you if you don’t know this already (there’s nothing to know really). On Friday last week, Barsha Raut and Priyanka Karki did a Zoom interview with Cinepati. Everything was fun until the host asked the two actresses their point of view about the on going border controversy. To which Karki said she has been researching about it the entire week and is looking forward to put out a detailed presentation on it (which she did a day later as she wrote a lot of informative stuff about the history on her Instagram story).
When the same question was asked to Barsha Raut, she said something like “This is something that has to be solved through a table talk. But the journalists from both sides are making people fight. The situation has got us in a position where I don’t know how to face my Indian friends and vice versa.” Well, that’s not the most ideal answer to the question but it isn’t really the answer that allows people to harass her online.
May be she was trying to say that it makes it awkward for her to talk to her friends in India or something or whatever. As someone who spent his childhood and teen years in India, got educated there and have more friends from across the border then here; let me just say it right here – they give zero fucks about it — my friends, I mean. And majority of the population there, I am sure. None of my Indian friends have written anything about it or talked to me regarding it. Nope, don’t judge them yet. They are not some illiterate and uninformed folks but the ones who cracked IIT and AIEEE, and have some fancy jobs now. They don’t get invested in such issues like us, Nepalis, do and I don’t want to compare who among us are right.
But you know what, it’s always good to raise your voice — social media being such a strong platform these days and we have to make sure we are heard loud and clear. That, however, doesn’t mean we talk shit about the people who have different opinions than ours.
May be Barsha actually fucked up (if you say so), but she already has apologized for it. How long are you going to bully her online? Until the Indian government says Lipulek and Kalapani are Nepal’s territories?
Now back to that Barsha Siwakoti post. She clarified it was not her because of the shit she had to read these last few days. Now imagine if she got bullied as people mistook her for the person who actually is getting all the hate, what must have been going with Raut actually? What do you wanna do to her? Make her hate herself so much that she goes into depression? Let her live, dude.
Now I am not the one who would go online and share stuff like #IamWithBarshaRaut and stuff because she hasn’t done anything that makes me proud of her. But she hasn’t also done anything that harms the existence and pride of my country.
Let’s not get into this shit, we have many other important stuff to take care of right now. I mean, we are in the middle of a pandemic here for fuck’s sake. On one hand this covid shit is spreading like wildfire and as a result, the economy has dropped harder than a DJ Snake beat. And on the other hand, ten thousands of migrant workers are stranded — waiting to come back home, spending days like they are in hell or somewhere worse.
We gotta keep our priorities straight. Peace!
