17-Year-Old Nepali Guy Has Been Directing Emiway’s Music Videos

At 16, he already had directed music videos for Nephop heavyweight Manas Ghale and the newest hiphop sensation Chirag Khadka aka 5:55.

Having worked with a number of dope Nepali hiphop artistes, Nishan Bhujel is now working with one of India’s biggest hiphop stars, Emiway Bantai. The two have released three music videos so far and are currently working on more.

So, how did a 12th grader got connected to the Mumbai rapper and released three videos that have garnered over 20 million views in three weeks? Here’s the story.

Nishans’s father got him a DSLR camera after he was done with his SEE and then began the journey of the self-taught teenage filmmaker.

While he had been shooting and publishing his works on his Instagram handle @nishanbhujel_, he got his first music video break earlier this year when he worked for ‘Guap‘, a music video by rappers Lil Classic and Ace. However, his first big project was ‘Life Jacket’ music video that he shot, edited and directed for the rising star 5:55. Released in March this year, the video has over 2.7 million views on YouTube.

Nishan then went on to direct a number of other rap videos for Tyrant, Honey, Nati, Ace and the Nepsydaz emcee Manas Ghale.

In September, when he found that Emiway Bantai would be in Kathmandu for a gig, he tried his luck and emailed him with a proposal to cover his event. The rapper, who recently bagged the MTV Europe Music Award for the Best Indian act, was so impressed with his previous works that he offered Nishan to direct a music video for him. The two met in Kathmandu and the Checkmate music video was made. The video shot in Nepal has almost 10 million views in three weeks.

“We met before the event day and discussed about the music video and that was the first time when I heard the track. Though we had very less time, the shoot went pretty well. I finished the post production in about 3 days and it was then up on YouTube”, said Nishan.

The ‘Samajh Mein Aaya Kya’ rapper then invited Nishan to Mumbai to work on some of his other music videos — two of them have already been released.

‘Sab Kuch New’ video was put out on YouTube on Oct 25. It currently has over 5 million views.

And the one-take music video for ‘No Brands’ that was dropped on November 1st nearly has 5 million views.

Nishan is currently in Mumbai, working on some more projects with Emiway. “My ultimate goal is to get into film industry and make movies that are different and which will grab the global attention. And I do believe that I’ll achieve it someday”, says the young dreamer and we totally have faith in him.

Keep up the good work, Nishan.
