Amazumi Drops First Single ‘Moods’ From New Project ‘Amazumi in Exile’

The girl’s back, y’all. She’s totally back!!

Amazumi made a name for herself when she made it to the finals of a popular talent hunt show in Belgium last year. Competing with hundreds of others, she had ended up among the top 8 finalists in De Nieuwe Lichting (meaning The New Wave), an annual competition organized by radio station Studio Brussel.

The hiphop artiste’s musical journey started back in 2014 when she was studying documentary film-making in the UK. She released her debut single that year; and a year later, she was among the performing artistes in Women in Concert’s UK edition that was headlined by Abhaya and the Steam Engines. She went by the stage name of Zulu Moon back then.

She then moved to Belgium where she was able to earn all the attention and recognition she deserved. Apart from her De Nieuwe Lichting stint, she also performed live at various venues across the nation. While she was there, she also released an EP titled ‘V for Venom‘.

In January this year, Amazumi moved back to the UK where her family lives “to answer her family’s call — she packed her heart along with her suitcase to fulfil a daughter’s duty”, leaving behind Ghent, the city she calls her “first true love”. In an Instagram post, she made it clear that she will only be gone for around a year.

Even though “she left her artistic nest in Ghent for the colder shores of England”, she still is unstoppable. She is currently working on a two-sided project called Amazumi in Exile. “It showcases lighter but moody reflections, bouncy rhythms and summer sadness on Side A: Dopamine Rush and then reaches back into the darker elements of her first EP ‘V for Venom in Side B: Indian Ink that screams harsh, scathing, unsettling tones of resentment”, a press release read.

On Tuesday this week, Amazumi dropped the first single off of her new project. Titled ‘Moods’, it has been released with a music video directed by Aparecida Vi Baijot and shot by Zeno Dockx. The song written, composed and performed by Amazumi is mixed by Ruben Boidin and mastered by Cochlea Mastering.

Here it is. Enjoy this amazing number.

Amazumi is performing alongside Jerusha and Shreya Rai in Brockley this Saturday (June 23rd). Find the details HERE.
