Nikita Chandak’s ‘Dances Of The World’ Costume At Miss World 2017

The ‘Dances of the World’ segment is back in Miss World. The popular segment was not part of the last year’s event that took place in Washington, D.C.

Miss World Nepal 2017, Nikita Chandak, reached China on Friday this week to represent Nepal at the largest and oldest beauty pageant. A day after arriving in the country, the 20-year-old got to work as she along with other participants had to audition for a spot in the pageant’s ‘Dances of the World’ segment.

In order to be able to show a dance performance from their respective countries during the finale event, the contestants have to first impress the segment judges and only those few who get selected then get the chance.

The popular choreographer from Nepali film industry, Keshav Thapa, had trained Chandak for the performance. “I hope I get selected to showcase our dance at the platform of the WORLD. KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS”, she wrote on an Instagram post she shared after her audition.

Chandak was clad in a traditional wear by Manish Rai for her audition. Talking with NeoStuffs, “This outfit is inspired from the traditional fariya – choli worn in the mountainous region of Nepal. I have used traditional Purbeli handloom Dhaka as the main fabric”, the Kathmandu based designer said.

Chaubandi choli has puff sleeves to enhance the look. There are two layers on the skirt which gives it very dramatic look and the zarees woven on the fabric gives the dress very glittery effects. As the Nepali outfits are incomplete without the traditional jewellery, we’ve used sirbandi, phuli, chapte soon, tilhari, seer phool, chandrama; and lacha is braided with hair”, he further explained the outfit.

“This is a complete Nepali traditional attire. The entire outfit is handcrafted in Nepal.”

Nikita Chandak, who was crowned Miss World Nepal 2017 in June this year, will compete with over 100 candidates for the Miss World Crown – currently held by Stephanie del Valle of Puerto Rico. The coronation night will be held on November 18 in Sanya, China.
