It’s Official, Mira Rai Is 2017 National Geographic Adventurer Of The Year

National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award is coming to Nepal for the second consecutive time. And this time, it’s Mira Rai who will be bringing home. National Geographic announced the winner on Thursday on their website.

The trail runner from Bhojpur was among the ten nominees for this prestigious award and the audience could vote online for their favorite personality. After the end of the 45-day voting in December, Rai had over thirty three thousand votes; whereas her nearest competitor Krzysztof Starnawski had less than eighteen thousand votes.

Each year National Geographic honors 10 people from around the world who have achieved something in exploration, conservation, cultural restoration, adventure sports and humanitarianism. Nepali mountaineer Pasang Lhamu Sherpa Akita had won the award in 2016.

Rai will be receiving the award later this year in an event by National Geographic. Pasang Lhamu had received the award in an event titled ‘Explorers Symposium’ in Washington DC in June last year.
