The 10 Most Beautiful Songs From Nepali Films In Recent Years

A Nepali film is almost incomplete without a couple of songs in it. There are a couple films, most recent and popular one being ‘Kalo Pothi’, that didn’t have a song during the runtime of the film but most of them did come up with a promotional song. And that clearly explains the importance of the songs in Nepali films. There have been many instances when the films were a complete disaster but they are only remembered because of the songs. That’s not it yet, there have been songs that have literally saved some films from drowning at the box office. See, a beautiful song can actually attract a good mass of audience, no matter what the film is like.

This pretty much sums up what the value of a song in a Nepali film is. So, today we have compiled a list to honor the people behind these amazing songs. Here’s a list of ten of the most beautiful songs from Nepali films that released in and after 2014. We repeat, this is the list of our hand-picked songs that we think were the best ones, no matter if they became popular or not. It won’t be fair to compare them and tell which one of them is the best because every single one of them are winners for us and that is why the songs are listed in order of the dates they were released in. Here you go!

1. Timro Tyo Boli Le

‘Timro Tyo Bolile’ from Raghav is undoubtedly one of the best creations of Sanjeev Singh. Along with its music; the song is written, composed and performed by Singh himself. The film starring Shibir Pokharel, Asmita Dhakal and Rocken Byanjankar that was shot in USA was never released in the cinema halls of Nepal but it was widely appreciated when the Bhupendra Bhattarai directorial was officially released on YouTube.

2. Timro Aankhama

We would always be thankful to 2014 film ‘Stupid Mann’ for giving us such a beautiful song. ‘Timro Aankhama’ is not only written by Arjun Pokharel but its music too is composed by him and it has been sung by Swaroop Raj Acaharya and Anju Pant. The film directed by Diwakar Bhattarai stars Jiwan Luitel, Niraj Baral and Riju Shrestha in the lead roles.

3. Ke Yo Maya Ho

2014 film ‘Jerryy’ had a lot of good songs and we are happy that it gave us an amazing talent called Hercules Basnet. He had been active in music for a decade but it was after ‘Jerryy’ when he got the recognition that he deserved. With songs like ‘Ke Yo Maya Ho’ and ‘Chahanchu Timilai’ that he wrote, composed and sung for the film; he won our hearts. The film starring Anmol KC and Anna Sharma was directed by Hem Raj BC.

4. Chokho Maya

2015 film ‘Zindagi Rocks’ had a very bad result at the box office but it will always be remembered for all the soothing and beautiful love songs it gave us. ‘Chokho Maya’ is undoubtedly the best song from the film that absolutely deserved to be in this list. The song is written and its music is composed by Kamal Khatri and is also sung by himself along with Shreya Sotang. The film starring Akesha Bista, Prakriti Shrestha, Richa Sharma, Sauram Raj Tuladhar and Sonam Pakhrin was directed by Nikesh Khadka.

5. Surke Thaili Khai

‘Surke Thaili Khai’ from Woda Number 6 is the most popular Nepali song on YouTube with over 9 million views. But it has not made it to this list because of its popularity but because it’s actually a beautiful number. The song written by Rajan Raj Shiwakoti is sung by himself along with Anju Pant and Raju Biswokarma. The 2015 film starring Deepak Raj Giri, Priyanka Karki, Jitu Nepal, Dayahang Rai, Kedar Ghimire, Sitaram Kattel and Dipa Shree Niraula was directed by Ujwal Ghimire.

6. Bhaari Bho/Resham Filili

When we say ‘Resham Filili’, you immediately think of ‘Jaalma’. The two have actually become the synonym of each other. It won’t be wrong to say that a lot of credit of the film’s success goes to ‘Jaalma’ as it became one of the most popular Nepali songs ever in a short period of time. But we are not featuring that song in this list. That’s a good song but we really think that the title song ‘Bhaari Bho’ was a better piece of work. The song written, composed and sung by Kali Prasad Baskota tells the story of every ordinary Nepali person. The words have so much truth in them that they hurt and more particularly this line: “Theli theli chalda chha zindagi ko motora, ke le laaune khaane khai barai chhaina kehi bhara, ma ta muluk basu ki ma Muglaan pasu ki, malai bhani dine ko chha ra.” The 2015 film directed by Pranab Joshi stars Vinay Shrestha, Menuka Pradhan and Kameshwor Chaurasiya in the lead roles.

7. Maya Ka Baadal

At the end of Kabaddi Kabaddi when Kazi (Dayahang Raia) still doesn’t get Maiya (Rishma Gurung) even after all the efforts and struggles he went through; it breaks our hearts and when ‘Maya Ka Badaal’ song plays in the background at that moment, it hits us right in the feels. The song written by Aayush Niraula and Anupam Sharma is sung by Anupam himself. The 2015 film was a seqeul to Kabaddi, directed by Ram Babu Gurung.

8. Timi Samu

You may love or hate Anmol KC but you just can’t deny the fact that the soundtracks from his films are always very good. His third film ‘Dreams’ too had some beautiful songs and ‘Timi Samu’ is our favorite. The song written and composed by Bishes Pandey and Rodit Bhandari is sung by Rodit himself along with Somiya Baraili. The 2016 film directed by Bhuwan KC also had Samragyee RL Shah in the lead role.

9. Prem Geet

‘Prem Geet’ title song is undoubtedly a beautiful song and a lot of credit for it goes to the choreographer, Renasha Rai. We instantly fell in love with the song when its video was released as along with the beautiful locations, attractive outfits and the gorgeous looking actors; there was something amazing about the choreography. The song written by Arjun Pokharel is sung by Sugam Pokharel and Anju Pant. Released in 2016, the film directed by Sudarshan Thapa has Pradeep Khadka and Pooja Sharma in the lead roles.

10. Nira

At last but not the least, it’s your current favorite song that you have been humming all the time. You got it right, it’s none other than ‘Nira’ from Purano Dunga. Another wonderful creation by Kali Prasad Baskota, the song is written and sung by himself and the music too is composed by himself. The upcoming film starring Dayahang Rai, Priyanka Karki and Maotse Gurung is directed by Ram Babu Gurung.
