Know About Him Before You Make Fun of His Weak English

The above video is quite old but it has started making rounds on social media again after some random Facebook pages didn’t find anyone else to insult and shared it with dominating comments on Mr. Subedi’s weak English.

The interview was taken back in September 2013 during a UN General Assembly by Jesse Watters for Fox News. Most of the people just saw that the Nepalese delegate Sudarshan Subedi could not speak English and was made fun of without even trying to know who this person is. Take some time and find out about him and then decide for yourself if he is a disgrace to the nation because he could not speak English or is he the pride of the nation for what he has done.

#1. No, he is not some corrupt politician who just wanted to have a vacation in USA on state’s expenses. In fact, he was the only delegate from a Nepalese NGO attending the high level meeting on Disability and Development (HLMDD) at the United Nations in New York on September 23, 2013.

#2. He is the Chairperson for the National Federation of the Disabled Nepal (NFDN), and has been working with Handicap International for more than a decade, promoting disability rights and policies.

#3. Just before leaving for the UN Meeting then, he had joined Handicap International at a High Level UN meeting in Nepal. At this meeting, Handicap International presented the international context of the CRPD, while Mr. Subedi presented the Nepali context in regards to implementing various initiatives.

#4. He was eight years old when he started limping and have had to live with polio since then. But has that stopped him from working for the people with disabilities and for their welfare? Well, you tell me.

#5. Post earthquake, he and his organization have been actively working on the relief and sustainability activities for the victims with disabilities. And no, those people didn’t say they won’t take any help from a person who can’t speak English fluently.

#6. You have probably never heard or read about him even after all his outstanding works because he doesn’t like to boast of his works. He believes in working, not showing.

You were so busy judging him based on his poor English that you didn’t even notice how much of nonsensical questions Mr. Watters asked all the delegates such as, “Is America a noble nation?”, “Do the Russians think that President Putin “hot-dogged” President Obama over Syria?”, “When President Putin takes his shirt off and rides around on horseback, do you find him attractive?”, “Do you smoke at the UN?”, “Have you found romance in NY, with the ladies?” “You may be striking out, but things will pick up.”

At the end of the interview and back in the studio, Mr. O’Reilly says, “we have to go to Nepal.” Mr. Watters laughingly replies, “Oh and you know what they also have, lentil soup and you know what they serve it over, rice,” with Mr. O’Reilly now also laughing. Well, I would like to invite them both to Nepal so that they can see for themselves that what Nepal and the Nepalese are about. And also, so that they can actually find out that how heavenly “lentil soup with rice” tastes.

By the way, the name of the ‘what-a-shame-he-can’t-even-speak-English’ Nepalese guy is spelled as SUDARSHAN SUBEDI, not SHUDARSON SHUBEDI.
